April Poetry Contest!

WINNER OF THE APRIL POETRY CONTEST IS THE AUTHOR OF
Peace is not an illusion

Here is what the judges said:

"This poem made me think more than the others, and, to me, contained the most passion." LB

"There is passion in this poem-- it makes me respond. Therefore I think this poem works best. (I disagree with what the poet says in this poem. I think the writer is really angry inside and not peaceful at all.)" DJ

My third judge chose, I built a wall around my heart because, "I resonate to this poem because it speaks from love and the experience of love. For me, it is a reflection of the soul of the writer and is in harmony with the journey many take to find their heart's love shining out beyond the walls of brick and stone! Love is joyful, kind, and a celebration!"

Winner please contact me directly so that I can insert an 8x8 credit into your account. This is what you have won...

The winning poem, chosen by my select panel of judges, will receive an 8x8 book within which your poem can be published, along with supporting photographs. This 8x8 book ($50 value) will be accessed at my site, http://www.storytellersrus.com. I will transfer a credit into a site only you can access and where you will be able to design your book. You will have to cover postage for your book, upon its completion.

To a Skylark
Hail to thee, blithe Spirit!
Bird thou never wert,
That from Heaven, or near it,
Pourest thy full heart
In profuse strains of unpremeditated art.

A simple poem for everyone.

Love is free. Peace is free.
Why shouldn't we be happy?
Feel free to be happy and smile.
It goes more than an extra mile.

Like this poem?
Share them.
For what?
To brighten their hearts.

A lovely thank you for reading this.
Hopefully it brings some peace ;)

This is a poem I wrote several years ago, long before I met the woman who would become my wife, but I immediately knew that I had written it for her, without ever having known it... ironically, Marla doesn't speak English, and has never really ever understood the feelings behind it, because much gets lost in the translation. Obviously, though, it doesn't really matter, because we live happily in our garden.

"A Garden in Between"

I built a wall around my heart
To keep the world away
But made of straw, it soon began
To wither and decay

My second wall of mud and sticks
Was higher still, and stronger
One stolen kiss, and that one
Lasted only slightly longer

My final wall was three feet thick
Of mortar, bricks and stone
Some tried and failed, and left
My heart protected and alone

But then came you and I could see
How incorrect I'd been --
The more I kept things out, the more
I also held things in

The heart is like an animal
It needs to be set free
It cannot be imprisoned
By one's insecurity

Even after years inside
It still longs to be wild
To join another heart
To live, to love, to have a child

Now brick by brick, stone by stone
I chip away until
I see a ray of sunshine
From beyond a distant hill

YOU are that sunlight I can see
Through so much brick and stone
Your eyes meet mine from deep inside
A fortress of your own

Outside our walls we find a place
We never would have seen
A place of gentle harmony
A garden in between

Come to our garden now, my sweet
And while away the hours
Come, take my hand and walk with me
In love among the flowers

My wife is the poet. This is from her writing.

Peace is not an illusion

Peace is not an illusion
It is a real place
space and taste of life
It’s not boring, it’s not dull
Peace is like a clean house
Freeing the mind and body to work on other things
There is and can be adventure and meaning without going to war
Without exploiting third worlds
Or becoming angry and vindictive at those
who seek to stop our roving hands
Peace is not an illusion
if you can be satisfied
without ‘stars and striping’ the whole damn world
